Lighting The Way
The second phase of the RWJUHBarnabas Health Somerset Master Plan renovation was the consolidation and relocation of the same day surgery services. The unit provides a closer adjacency to the operating suite and PACU for better procedural flow. The 14 private intake bays and 10 recovery bays were carefully designed to provide greater patient privacy while maintaining an open, light filled unit.
Lighting design plays a pivotal role in unifying the space. Rhythmic linear lights guide patients from the family waiting area with its focal skylights to the pre-operative suite with its unique lit soffit, and continues through the recovery suite for a more gentle lighting effect. The neutral finish throughout brings focus to clinical touch points by adding warmer wood tones at the clinical work areas.
